What is Cannabigerol?

Cannabigerol, also known as CBG is the rare and undoubtedly the mother of all cannabinoids. As all other cannabinoids, like THC and CBD, CBG acts on our cannabinoid receptors.

The human body naturally produces this substance in an attempt to regulate the immune system. It is always present in small amounts in most cannabis plants but it can also be found in some other plants which are not related to cannabis at all.

CBG is found in small amounts within the cannabis plant, tracing at most 1%, in comparison to high levels of THC ranging from 20-30% and CBD from 5-18%. Making retail products containing levels of this rare cannabinoid more sought out for its novelty of limited and unique properties.

What are the health benefits of Cannabigerol?

Cannabigerol, or CBG for short, has been proven to have a wide range of medical benefits. It can help with mental health, physical pain, inflammation and other medical conditions.

Most research has found that CBG is an effective treatment for epilepsy, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. It also works well in reducing chronic pain in patients with certain types of arthritis. These are just some of the many conditions that CBD has been found to be effective in treating.

Many studies have shown that Cannabierol (CBG) prevented inflammation-induced colon damage when administered immediately after colitis was induced.

CBG is derived from younger plants as they contain higher levels than fully developed plants. Cannabis growers looking to produce levels of CBG in their product often need to crossbreed and use genetic manipulation to develop greater percentage yields of CBG.

How does Cannabigerol affect your body?

CBG is often sought after in cannabis as this cannabinoid offers non-psychoactive properties. It also binds with both receptors in your endocannabinoid system strengthening  the function of anandamide, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in enhancing pleasure and motivation, regulating appetite and sleep, and alleviating pain. What is the history of Cannabigerol?

CBG was first identified in 1964 by Israeli organic chemist Raphael Mechoulam. Cannabigerol has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and neuroprotective effects. In addition, it promotes bone growth and has been used as an antiseptic for cuts and abrasions.

In the plant’s trichomes, CBGA is converted into either CBD or THC with a process called decarboxylation. This process happens when heat activates the carboxyl group on the CBGA molecule.

The production of CBG often makes the range of consumer products scarce, however the host of promising benefits produced from the rare cannabinoid have led to new and emerging products in the legal market.
